Smudging is a very powerful practice for clearing away stagnant or unwanted energies in your home, in your heart or your mind. Be intentional, mindful, and calm as you are smudging. The ritual of lighting a candle and then smudging yourself or your space allows you to gather presence, to let go of stress and to enter into our daily lives with ease and intention.
I suggest sitting in a quiet space for a few minutes to feel the energy in the space, to soften into yourself, to take some full deep breaths, and to get clear on the intentions you are calling in before your smudging session.
- Set an intention for the energy clearing
Take one stick and light it with a candle, match or lighter.
Allow the Palo Santo stick to burn for 30 seconds to a minute, then carefully blow it out.
Hold your intention and move around the space in which you wish to clear the energy - be it your bedroom, office, car or your entire home - allowing the smoke to waft around each area.
As you take the Palo Santo stick into the corners of each room or space you are cleansing. A rich smell will fill the air, bringing peace and clarity to the moment.
Trust your intuition. Once you feel you have cleansed your space, place the Palo Santo stick in a fireproof bowl and allow the embers to burn out.
Remember to always exercise care and caution when working with fire.
For centuries, Indigenous cultures have practiced smudging rituals to clear away negative energy, to invite in peace and harmony for individuals or environments. We honour the lineage and scared act of these traditions.
